Hwaeomsa Temple, the headquarters of the 19th Parish of the Korean Buddhist Jogye Order, is designated as Historic Site No. 505 (2009). This is regarded as a cradle of historic Buddhist culture with its grand scale and elegance. It is said to have been built by Yeonkijosa in 544 (the 22nd year of King Sung, Baekje) and named the temple after two letters of Buddhist Scripture Hwaeom.
